What is the Sharia ruling on a wife whose mother interferes in her household affairs, who travels without her husband's consent, who sells her gold without his knowledge, and who leaves the marital home to stay with her family, stipulating an apartment next to her mother's in order to return?

It is obligatory for the wife to obey her husband in what is right and lawful. It is not permissible for her to travel or leave the house without his permission, or to refuse to return to her home and stipulate a residence close to her mother, or to seek divorce without a valid reason. The husband's right takes precedence over the rights of parents when there is a conflict, just as when a woman marries, her husband has more authority over her than her parents, and obeying him is more obligatory. As for her disposition of the dowry gold, that is her right. The wife must repent and return to her home and live with her husband in kindness, otherwise, she is considered disobedient (nashiz). The husband is permitted to prevent his wife from visiting her mother if he fears she will be corrupted. It is advisable to reach an understanding with the wife and clarify the Islamic ruling to her. If she insists on seeking divorce without a valid reason, the husband has the right to refuse divorcing her until she relinquishes some of his rights.
