What is the ruling on a husband abandoning his wife in bed, in the room, at meals, and in conversation, for the most trivial and the most significant reasons, for a period of no less than a month and more, even though the wife fulfills all her duties and apologizes for any mistake?

Abandonment (hajr) is prescribed for the disobedient (nashiz) wife, and it is restricted to a specific manner. However, a husband's abandonment of his wife for reasons other than her disobedience or for the slightest cause contradicts Islamic law, especially if the wife is serving her husband and his parents. This indicates her noble character and good companionship, and she is not religiously obligated to serve his parents. The husband should emulate the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in treating his wives well. The wife should advise her husband in the best manner and increase her supplications. The husband should not prolong his abandonment of his wife, even if it is due to her disobedience. Some scholars have set the maximum duration of abandonment at one month, while others at three days. There is a disagreement among jurists regarding the ruling on a husband who abstains from intercourse with his wife for four months or more.
