What is the ruling on shrouding a man or woman in more than five pieces?

Scholars have clarified that a man is to be shrouded in three garments according to the Hanbalis and Hanafis, and in five according to the Malikis. The Shafi'is dislike exceeding five. As for a woman, she is to be shrouded in five garments according to all schools of thought. The Malikis do not dislike increasing this to seven, which includes a head covering (khimar), a chemise (dir'), an izar (waist wrapper), and four wrappers (lifa'if). These additions are recommended, but the obligatory minimum is a single garment that covers the deceased.
