The statement that sending blessings upon him thousands of times is a Sufi innovation is incorrect. What is reprehensible is restricting oneself to a specific number, believing it to have a particular virtue that is not supported by Islamic law. As for counting tasbeeh with a manual digital counter, its ruling is the same as that of prayer beads (subhah), and it is permissible.
