What is the ruling on a pilgrim taking a copy of the Qur'an from the Haram to read from it at home, as a memento of his 'Umrah, knowing that it is an endowment for the sake of Allah?

It is not permissible to take Qur'ans endowed in mosques, because doing so contradicts the purpose of their endowment, which is for all Muslims to read from them inside the mosque. The Qur'an that was taken must be returned. One can obtain a personal Qur'an by purchasing it.
