What is the remedy for feeling distressed and embarrassed upon hearing good news for others, knowing that this feeling contradicts the nature of a person who loves to help others? And does this feeling fall under the category of passing whispers (waswasah) for which Allah does not hold one accountable?
We advise you to fear Allah and seek refuge in Him through supplication and seeking protection from the evil of the soul and Satan. Occupy yourself with reforming your soul and performing the obligatory and supererogatory acts of worship. A Muslim must know that there is no repelling Allah's decree, for Allah is the Disposer in His dominion as He wills, as stated in His saying, the Almighty: "Say, 'O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.'" If a Muslim knows these truths and applies them, he will surrender his affairs to Allah, and the world will become insignificant to him, and he will overcome the whisperings of Satan and the soul.
