What is the meaning of prophethood and revelation, and how does revelation descend?

The Prophet is a conveyor of news from Allah and one who is given news, derived from naba' (news) and nubuwah (prophethood), and it is considered a knowledge by which one is guided. Prophethood is a divine choice, not attained through human effort. Wahy (revelation) in the linguistic sense is informing in secrecy and swiftness, and it is divided into general and specific: The general includes innate inspiration to creatures, Allah's communication to angels, the gesturing of some creatures, and the whispering of devils to their allies. As for the specific (Shar'i) wahy, it is Allah's informing His Prophet of commands, prohibitions, and news, and it can be by casting the revelation into the Prophet's heart, or by Allah speaking from behind a veil, or by sending an angel. Upon the descent of revelation, the Prophet would experience intense hardship, and his forehead would perspire profusely. He might hear a sound like the ringing of a bell, or the angel would appear to him as a man.
