Does giving 10 dirhams daily from the sick grandfather's money—sometimes after breakfast, sometimes in the morning, and sometimes before it—suffice and is it enough, and how should this charity be intended?

The illness of the grandfather determines the obligation:

- If there is hope for his recovery: He must make up the fasts when able, and feeding the poor is not sufficient.

- If there is no hope for his recovery: He must feed one poor person for each day. The amount of food is a Mudd (750 grams), and half a Sa' is better. It is not permissible to give money unless there is a strong benefit.

- The expiation (fidyah) must be given after the permissibility of breaking the fast for that day (i.e., after the true dawn appears), and it is valid if given at this time.

- The grandfather must appoint someone to give out the expiation on his behalf, because the act of worship is his responsibility and requires his intention.
