Is it permissible to use an unknown number to ask a suitor about some matters which one is too shy to ask directly?
Knowing the suitor's character is important for a successful marriage, which is why the Sunnah encourages choosing someone of good religious commitment and character, as stated in the Hadith: "If someone whose religious commitment and character you approve proposes to you, then marry him." The best way to know his character is to ask trustworthy individuals who know him. If they speak well of him, then accept him. If the doubts are mere illusions, then disregard them and rely on the words of trustworthy individuals, then perform Istikhara. However, if the doubts are based on strong suspicion, then verification is important, and it is better for your guardian (wali) or one of your mahrams to do this to avoid temptation. If you are compelled to ask yourself, then speak only as much as needed and observe the শরী'আহ (Islamic law) guidelines.
