Does a killer inherit?

An intentional killer inherits nothing at all, neither money nor blood money (diyya). This is by the consensus of the scholars. As for the accidental killer, the jurists have differed concerning him:

- The Shafi'is and Hanafis: He inherits nothing at all, just like the intentional killer.

- The Malikis: He inherits from the money but not from the blood money.

- The Hanbalis: There is no inheritance in a killing that entails retribution (qisas), blood money (diyya), or expiation (kaffara). However, if it is a killing that does not entail these—such as someone who intended to prevent his inheritor from doing something permissible for him, like administering medicine or bandaging a wound, and then he died—then he inherits from him.
