Is it permissible to give a copy of the Quran translated into Hindi, which includes the Arabic text, to a non-Muslim, after he has already been given a copy, in light of the Qur'an and Sunnah?
It is not permissible to translate the text of the Holy Qur'an, as it was revealed in the Arabic language. However, it is permissible to translate its meanings and interpretation to demonstrate its greatness and authority, and to fulfill the duty of conveying its message to non-Arabic speakers. The translator must have a correct understanding of the meanings of the verses to be able to express them accurately. The translation of the meanings is not considered the Qur'an itself, but rather it is similar to the Arabic exegesis in clarifying its meanings. It is permissible to gift it to a non-Muslim, provided that it is not accompanied by a stand-alone Arabic text.
