What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding a sick wife who is unable to have intercourse due to her illness and severe osteoporosis, as intercourse causes her extreme pain, despite her attempts and endurance, and her request for her husband to marry another, but he refused? Is she sinful if she refuses intercourse, knowing that she fulfills her duties towards him, is kind to him, and wishes to protect him from forbidden acts? And what is the optimal solution to this problem?

The fundamental principle in marital life is affection and mercy. A wife must respond to her husband's call to bed unless there is a legitimate Shar'i excuse, such as harm befalling her. If the wife is harmed, there must be mutual understanding with the husband to reduce sexual intercourse, and an appropriate amount can be agreed upon by both parties. Al-Mardawi and Al-Qadi advised reconciliation between spouses if the man increases sexual intercourse, and the estimation is left to the discretion of the judge. There is no harm in trying to convince the husband to marry another.
