Must what is likely to be impure be washed or is it just recommended, is prayer valid with it, and does it defile what it touches?

Nothing is ruled ritually impure except with certainty, because the original state of things is purity. So, whoever doubts the ritual impurity of his garment or the like, and is not certain of it, is not obligated to wash it, and his prayer with it is valid.
