Is singing with musical instruments considered one of the permissible matters of disagreement, especially given the existence of a treatise by Al-Shawkani that refutes the consensus on the prohibition of listening [to music]?

The madhhab of the four Imams is that all musical instruments are haram (forbidden). None of their followers have reported any dispute regarding this, except for what was narrated from some later Shafi'is concerning the 'yara' (flute). As for singing devoid of musical instruments, scholars have differed regarding it, between prohibition, dislike (makruh), and permissibility. Sheikh Ibn Baz emphasized that supplying radio stations with songs, music, and musical instruments is haram by the consensus of the people of knowledge. Furthermore, Al-Albani affirmed that scholars and jurists are in agreement on the prohibition of musical instruments, in accordance with the prophetic hadiths, and that what has been narrated from some to the contrary cannot be used as proof due to its contradiction with sound and explicit hadiths.
