The question

What is the ruling regarding a Muslim who dislikes or is annoyed by some of his Muslim brethren due to their low religious zeal or knowledge, or their bad manners, or other such characteristics? And is this considered part of the forbidden contempt for believers, or a whisper from Satan? And how should he deal with them if they are members of his family?

The answer

A Muslim's heart harboring dislike and unease towards someone he sees committing a sin or being negligent is a form of denouncing evil in the heart and is not arrogance. Arrogance is rejecting the truth and belittling people. However, this dislike must be controlled by Islamic law, so that the hater does not waste the right of Islamic brotherhood. The sinning Muslim is hated for his sin and loved for his faith. Therefore, the legal rights of a Muslim must be fulfilled, such as greeting him, advising him, and not despising or oppressing him. As for one who is afflicted with cowardice or weakness, he is not hated, but rather pitied by advising and helping him, and focusing on his good aspects.
