Is it permissible to buy cigarettes for a Muslim maid who is convinced of their detestability but not their prohibition, and would refraining from doing so affect her treatment of the child?

Smoking is forbidden (haram), and assisting a smoker in their habit is impermissible due to the established jurisprudential rule: "What is forbidden to take is forbidden to give." This is because aiding in it falls under the category of encouraging what is forbidden, and Allah has prohibited that, saying: {And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.}

Therefore, you should not be an aid or an intermediary for the maid in purchasing cigarettes. Rather, you must forbid and advise her. The fear of aggression against your daughter does not permit assisting in disobedience, as this fear can be averted through other means.
