Why do most wives grieve and become depressed when they hear of their husbands' desire for polygyny, despite its permissibility in the Qur’an and Sunnah, and why does the Qur’an not state that polygyny does not require a flaw in the wife?

The discomfort of women with polygyny is natural, so long as it does not lead to something forbidden (haram). Reasons for exceeding natural jealousy include: weak submission to the rulings of Islamic law, selfishness, a misunderstanding of polygyny, failed experiences, the reluctance of role models, the ideology of equality, the notion of the first wife's inadequacy, and ignorance of the rulings on polygyny and marriage. Allah has permitted polygyny in the Quran without restricting it to the wife's inadequacy or her permission. Whoever objects to Allah's ruling lacks proper etiquette with the Creator.
