The question

Did the divorce occur or not, and is it considered one divorce or two, given the dispute that took place and the wife's statement, "Tell yourself that you are divorced," and the husband's desire to take her back and his regret for what he did in a state of anger?

The answer

Anger does not prevent the divorce from taking effect unless it impairs one's awareness. The husband's statement to his wife: "Consider yourself divorced" is an explicit pronouncement of divorce, and the divorce takes effect at the moment the husband says it. If you uttered the divorce while being fully aware, then your divorce is effective. If you are unsure about the number of divorces that occurred, then it is considered a single divorce. However, if you are certain of repeated pronouncements of divorce, and you doubt whether the intention was to confirm a previous divorce or to initiate a new one, then the apparent ruling is to consider it a new initiation, and three divorces occur. Some scholars, such as Ibn Taymiyyah, held the view that successive divorces without a new marriage contract or reconciliation are counted as a single divorce.
