Another example is what al-Hasan al-Basri narrated from Abu Hurayrah, according to the opinion that he did not see him. This category also includes a narrator’s explicit statement that he did not hear directly from the person he is quoting, such as the hadiths narrated by Abu Ubaydah ibn Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud from his father. Al-Tirmidhi stated that Amr ibn Murrah asked Abu Ubaydah: "Do you recall anything from Abd Allah?" He replied: "No."
