Will a wife be held accountable if she emotionally abandons her husband but does not seek divorce out of concern for her children, especially given the husband's absence from the home, his neglect in caring for the children, and his acknowledgment of the wife's right to financial support? And does the father's responsibility fall away if he prioritizes his work?

Discord between spouses violates the marital conduct enjoined by Allah (mu'asharah bi'l-ma'ruf). A woman incurs no sin for not seeking divorce due to ill-treatment; indeed, she may be rewarded for her patience. Financial support (nafaqah) includes all a woman's needs for a dignified life, encompassing housing, food, clothing, oil, firewood, domestic help, midwife fees, indispensable adornments, and even a female companion if she feels lonely in her husband's absence. The husband must balance the material rights between his children and his wife, and he must discipline his children and teach them what they need regarding their religious affairs. A wife's right to financial support is forfeited if she is disobedient (nashiz).
