Is it permissible to name oneself with names such as Abd al-Darr (Servant of the Harmer), Abd al-Muntaqim (Servant of the Avenger), Abd Dhil-Jalal (Servant of the Possessor of Majesty), and Abd al-Ikram (Servant of Generosity)?

Naming with the prefix "Abd" (servant of) added to the Beautiful Names of Allah is permissible, and the best of these are Abdullah (servant of Allah) and Abdul-Rahman (servant of the Most Merciful). There is disagreement regarding whether the names mentioned by the questioner are among the Beautiful Names of Allah, based on the differing opinions about the authenticity of the Tirmidhi Hadith that mentioned them. Some scholars have favored the view that they are not among them, due to their preference for weakening the Hadith, and because Allah's Names are Tawqifiyyah (derived only from textual evidence). Therefore, it is more appropriate to avoid naming with the prefix "Abd" attached to those names and to suffice with names about which there is no disagreement.
