Is it permissible to perform a hysterectomy or cauterize the surrounding area, with the resulting inability to conceive, given the severe suffering from acute and continuous bleeding after menstruation, which causes health and psychological complications, and after exhausting all other medical solutions?
What the questioner is experiencing after menstruation is Istihada (prolonged vaginal bleeding outside of the regular menstrual period), and she must act according to what we have explained in fatwas numbered: 48957, 32067.
Hysterectomies and similar procedures are not permissible unless the woman fears certain harm to herself or great hardship, and she has exhausted all means of treatment, and knowledgeable doctors have informed her that there is no treatment except removal. In such a case, it is permissible for her to undergo it to remove harm from her, as warding off evils takes precedence over achieving benefits.
Viewing the 'awrah (private parts) is not permissible except out of necessity or a recognized need, and if no female doctor is available.
