Is it permissible to divorce a wife who has been medically proven to be infertile, knowing that the husband cannot marry another?
Divorce is permissible, especially if there is a need for it, and it is disliked when there is no need. So there is no harm in divorcing a wife, and the husband is not considered to be oppressing her.
However, if the wife is religious and the husband's financial situation is comfortable, then it is advisable to keep her and not divorce her. For in his kindness to her and his spending on her, there is a great reward, in accordance with the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "And you will not spend any expenditure but you will be rewarded for it, even the morsel you raise to your wife's mouth."
And the husband might be granted a child from her, even if doctors say otherwise.
