What is the ruling of Islamic law concerning Muslims residing in North America who rely on monthly government assistance and refrain from working in pursuit of leisure?

One cannot make judgments without verification. A Muslim is obligated to strive, work diligently, and seek employment, as Allah Almighty says: (So walk among its slopes and eat from His provision, and to Him is the resurrection) [Al-Mulk:15]. Some may rely on government assistance, but they might face a dire situation if these aids are withheld. A person eating from the labor of their own hands has great virtue, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No one has ever eaten a better meal than that which he has eaten from the work of his own hands."
