Is a wife sinful for working despite her husband's prohibition and constant threats of divorce? Must she obey him and quit her job? And should she refrain from bearing children with him, even though he rejects this and insists on having children?
The wife must advise her husband to consistently perform prayers. If he does not respond, then it is advisable to seek divorce, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Between a man and disbelief or polytheism is the abandonment of prayer." And due to the saying of some scholars that abandoning even one prayer without a valid excuse is considered disbelief. He must also be reminded that an oath should only be sworn by Allah, and swearing by divorce necessitates فسق (transgression/sinfulness). As for work, it is not permissible without the husband's permission unless it was stipulated in the marriage contract, and obedience to the husband is obligatory in all matters related to marriage and its dependents. Regarding birth control methods, there is no harm in them if they are for a specific period and with the husband's consent. The wife's maintenance and all living expenses are obligatory upon the husband.
