If it is confirmed that vanilla is prepared by steeping it in alcohol, then if the amount of alcohol is pure or its proportion is intoxicating, it becomes ritually impure (najis) and its use is impermissible. However, if the alcohol content is very small and not intoxicating, then there is no harm in using it.
