Does the alcohol in vanilla extract turn into a non-intoxicating substance when the cake to which the extract is added is baked?

If vanilla contains alcohol, it is not permissible to add it to pastries because alcohol contaminates them. However, if the alcohol is added after it has transformed into another substance that is not intoxicating, then there is no objection to using vanilla in pastries.
