Is it permissible to wipe over a prosthetic limb that covers the area of washing on an amputated foot? And is it permissible to wipe over a sock on an injured foot while washing the other foot?

An artificial foot has two situations regarding ablution (wudu') and wiping (masah):

1. If removing it does not cause harm or severe difficulty: It must be removed to wash the remaining part of the foot up to the ankles during ablution. It is permissible to wipe over it like a khuff (leather sock) if it was put on while in a state of purity. A condition for the permissibility of wiping is the existence of a remaining part of the foot that is washed before putting on the artificial foot, and the wiping should be on the top surface of what remains. The wiping is restricted to one day and one night for a resident and three days for a traveler. The difference in material between the artificial foot and the sock of the other foot does not matter, and it is not permissible to wipe over one and wash the other.

2. If removing it causes harm or severe difficulty: It takes the ruling of a splint (jabirah), so it is not obligatory to remove it. Instead, it is sufficient to wipe over it, encompassing what covers the foot up to the ankles, and the other leg is washed. It is not a condition to put it on while in a state of purity, nor is the wiping over it restricted by a time limit. The Permanent Committee stated that if anything remains of the part of the body that is obligatory to wash during ablution from the amputated limb, it must be washed. Wiping over the artificial limb is not sufficient unless its removal causes great difficulty, in which case it is permissible to wipe over it just as one wipes over a splint.
