What is the ruling on wiping over a prosthetic device attached in place of an amputated hand during ablution outside the home, given the extreme difficulty in removing and reattaching it?

If removing the device and washing the rest of the hand does not involve significant hardship, then this is obligatory. However, if the hardship is severe or there is a fear of harm, the device is treated like a splint, meaning that the part covering the hand is wiped over, and the exposed part of the hand is washed. The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas has stipulated that whatever remains of the place of the obligatory ablution from the amputated part must be washed. Wiping over a prosthetic limb is not sufficient unless its removal causes great hardship, in which case it is permissible to wipe over it just as one wipes over a splint.
