Is it permissible for a woman to send an X-ray image of her pelvis – which shows the size of the thigh and is described as embarrassing – in a mixed group (men and women) for orthopedic consultation, knowing that the specialist doctor only answers through this group?

X-rays and ultrasound images do not fall under the ruling of forbidden images of 'awrah (intimate parts) that are unlawful to view. However, if the image shows the size of the thigh, it is better not to display it to a general group, but rather to send it directly to the specialist doctor or seek a female doctor. Ahmad and Al-Diya' Al-Maqdisi narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Usama bin Zayd concerning the Qibtiyya garment he gave to his wife: "Tell her to wear a ghilalah (undergarment) beneath it, for I fear it may describe the size of her bones." This indicates the prohibition of clothing that describes the size of bones, and likewise, images that describe that. If there is an extreme necessity to display it to the group and you cannot communicate privately, you should register under an unknown name and mention that it is an image for another woman seeking consultation. Indeed, modesty is a branch of faith.
