Must I listen to everything said without thinking, or act in a way that suits me?

Whoever intends to embark on an endeavor should consult with righteous people known for their piety and sound judgment, and seek guidance from Allah (istikharah), then resolve to act. They should not follow every opinion they hear, but rather consider what appears to be in their best interest and suitable for them.
