What is the ruling on wearing something—made of plastic or silver—in which benefit is believed to reside or harm is believed to be repelled? Does it carry the same ruling as a string (khayt) concerning minor shirk and imitating the people of Jahiliyyah? And does the ruling differ between men and women?

Wearing or putting on a ring with the intention of seeking influence or protection from evil is polytheism (shirk), whether for men or women, based on the hadith: "Whoever hangs (an amulet) has committed shirk" and "Whoever hangs something is entrusted to it," and the hadith of Imran ibn Husayn concerning the prohibition of wearing the ring of al-Wahina. Students of knowledge must educate people about the danger of shirk and the necessity of adhering to Allah and relying upon Him.
