Must I agree to marry a man toward whom I felt no comfort or attraction at the first meeting, even though he is of good character and religiously committed?
A man's religiosity and character are among the most important things a woman should consider when choosing a husband. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If someone whose religiosity and character you are pleased with proposes to you, then marry him." And if the suitor does not possess the physical beauty and good looks that would make you accept him as a husband, he might possess spiritual adornments in his manners and good character that suffice you. You should also perform Istikhara (prayer for guidance), for if there is good for you in marrying him, Allah will facilitate it for you. And if you fear there won't be compatibility between you, then there is no sin upon you in refusing the marriage.
