How can the hadiths that prohibit drinking while standing be reconciled, and what are their rulings?

The prohibition against drinking while standing is established, and it is understood as a disliking of tanzih (discouraged but not forbidden) rather than tahrim (forbidden). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, drank while standing to show that it is permissible. As for the command to vomit for one who drank while standing, it is for استحباب (recommendation) and ندب (desirability). It is recommended for whoever drinks while standing, whether forgetfully or intentionally, to vomit.
