Is it permissible to perform the 'Aqeeqah with a ewe that was designated for it, then became pregnant and gave birth, whereupon the mother was slaughtered without its offspring?

The jurists differed regarding whether the 'aqiqah becomes designated upon designation, like the udhiyah. The Hanbalis hold that it does not become designated, so it is permissible to sell it even after its slaughter, unlike the udhiyah, because the udhiyah is a more intense act of worship, and the 'aqiqah was legislated for a new joy. The Shafi'is hold that it does become designated upon designation, like the udhiyah, so its offspring are slaughtered with it if it gives birth. However, according to the opinion of those who do not consider it designated, it is not obligatory to slaughter its offspring, and it is permissible to sell them. This latter opinion is the most probable.
