The question

Should an aunt who follows and supports the one known as Yasser Al-Habib be shunned and boycotted, given that she does not disavow his words concerning the Mother of the Believers and the Companions, and the questioner fears the spread of her deviant ideology within the rest of the family, especially since the questioner lives in a house owned by the aunt?

The answer

This person is astray and hostile towards the great Companions and the Mothers of the Believers. He has slandered Aisha with what Allah has exonerated her from, and this is an aspersion against the religion and the Quran. Your aunt is in great danger for following people of misguidance, and she needs someone to clarify the truth for her. Abandoning her depends on the legitimate benefit [maslaha shar'iyya]; if it deters her from misguidance and encourages her to return to the truth, then it is prescribed and required. But if it increases her obstinacy, then it is not prescribed. It is recommended to deal gently with her and strive to rescue her from this misguidance, and to confront doubts with knowledge, wisdom, advice, and compassion, seeking help from knowledgeable scholars who are aware of the doubts raised by such people.
