What is the ruling on using golden utensils and spoons, and items plated with gold?

It is forbidden to use gold and silver utensils and spoons for eating and drinking, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Do not drink in vessels of gold and silver, nor eat in their plates, for they are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter," and his saying: "Indeed, the one who eats or drinks in vessels of silver and gold is only rumbling in his belly the fire of Hell." The majority of scholars extended this prohibition to all other uses, besides eating and drinking, although some scholars restricted the prohibition to eating and drinking only. As for items coated with a golden or silver color using chemical materials, and not real gold or silver, there is no harm in using them.
