If the blood from a miscarriage occurs after 81 days, it is considered (post-natal bleeding); if it occurs before that, it is considered istihada (irregular bleeding), unless it coincides with the usual time of menstruation, in which case it is considered menses.

If the blood your mother saw was after three months, then it is nifas, and there is nothing (no missed prayers) upon her.

However, if the miscarriage occurred before that period, then the blood is istihada, and she must make up the prayers for those days that she missed, as a precaution.
