How can one increase their acts of obedience (to God), and what are examples of them?

A Muslim must first strive to perform the obligatory duties, such as prayer, fasting, zakat, and Hajj, while also treating people with excellence. This should then be followed by increasing voluntary acts of worship, such as supererogatory prayers, charity, voluntary fasting, remembrance of Allah, enjoining good and forbidding evil, and showing kindness to creation. All of these are doors to worship that increase reward and draw the servant closer to Allah.

Ibn al-Qayyim describes the absolute worshipper as one who follows Allah's pleasure wherever it may be, moving between the stations of servitude, present with the people of every act of worship, such as knowledge, jihad, dhikr, and charity. He is not restricted by customs or limitations. His work is for the will of his Lord, not his own will, fulfilling "It is You we worship and You we ask for help" with truthfulness. He is like rain and a date palm in his benefit. He becomes angry when Allah's sacred limits are violated. He is for Allah, by Allah, and with Allah; he is with Allah without creation, and with people without self. He is a stranger among people; his intimacy is with Allah, and his joy is in Him.
