Is there any supplication to remove sadness?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say when in distress: "There is no god but Allah, the All-Mighty, the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth and Lord of the Noble Throne." And when an affair overwhelmed him, he would say: "O Ever-Living, O Self-Subsisting, by Your mercy I seek help." He also taught Asma bint Umays words to say when in distress: "Allah, Allah is my Lord, I associate nothing with Him." And he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No servant is afflicted with anxiety or sorrow and says: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is past. Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the dispeller of my sorrow, and the remover of my anxiety,' except that Allah will remove his anxiety and sorrow and replace it with relief."
