The question

Is one who repeats the recitation of adhkar (remembrances) considered to be a victim of waswas (satanic whispering/obsessive thoughts), on the grounds of not contemplating the meaning sometimes, and not intending the supplication at other times, and what is the guidance for him?

The answer

There is no harm in repeating a remembrance (dhikr) for one who recited it without presence of heart and devotion. However, if this leads to obsessive whispering (waswasah), then one should abandon it and suffice with mentioning Allah once, while striving to attain presence of heart and devotion. The remembrance should not be repeated after completing it, in order to close the door to obsessive whispering.
