Is it permissible for a widow, during her 'iddah (waiting period), to move from the house of her first son to another house 40 kilometers away, or to the houses of her other two sons in a city 140 kilometers away?

A woman observing ' (waiting period) due to the death of her husband must observe it in the house where she was residing at the time of his death. She is not permitted to leave it to complete her 'iddah elsewhere, nor is she allowed to travel, whether for a short or long distance, except out of necessity.
