Is one who postpones Hajj this year due to its high costs sinful, especially given that he does not own a home and is furnishing his wife's apartment?

The preponderant opinion is that Hajj is obligatory for the one who is able to perform it immediately, and it is not permissible to delay it except for an excuse. Therefore, if you are able to perform Hajj this year, it is not permissible for you to delay it. However, if you do not possess more than what is essential for your needs and the basic needs of your family, such as housing and sustenance, then Hajj is not obligatory for you at that time. It is not a condition for the dwelling to be owned by you; rather, it suffices that you possess its usufruct through rent or loan. Thus, it is not permissible to delay Hajj for the purpose of buying a dwelling if you are capable of securing it through rent or other means.
