What should a woman do who aborted a 60-day-old fetus resulting from adultery, has repented, and wishes to pay the blood money (diyah) and fast for two months, but fears that her husband will find out about her fasting, knowing that she does not have the money to pay the diyah? What should she do to expiate this sin?

Whoever commits adultery and abortion must repent and increase in righteous deeds. The blood money (diyah) for aborting a fetus is a ghurra (a male or female slave), and its value is one-tenth of the mother's blood money. It is incumbent upon the direct perpetrator and is divided among the heirs who did not participate in the abortion. It remains a debt until financial ability is available. As for expiation (kaffara), it is fasting for two consecutive months, as freeing a slave is difficult to achieve. Scholars have differed regarding its obligation; some deem it obligatory, while others consider it recommended. Fasting is preferred to avoid disagreement. It is permissible to use dissimulation (tawriya) with the husband regarding the fasting.
