Why was the religion of Islam named "Islam"?

Islam was named as such because whoever enters it surrenders his face to Allah, submits, and complies with His rulings that have come from Allah and His Messenger. This is as stated in His Almighty saying: "And who would forsake the religion of Abraham except one who is foolish in mind? And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous. When his Lord said to him, 'Submit,' he said, 'I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds'," and His saying: "And whoever submits his face to Allah while he is a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah belongs the outcome of [all] matters."
