How can I turn away from this worldly life, and not care for it or what is in it?

To achieve asceticism in this world and turn away from it, one must recognize its insignificance and lowliness in the sight of Allah, and that it is fleeting. The wise person is one who turns away from it and makes the Hereafter his primary concern, knowing that whatever has been decreed for him from this world will surely reach him. This can be achieved by reflecting upon the biography of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and the lives of ascetics, by recalling Allah's condemnation of those who eagerly pursue this world, and by contemplating the religious and worldly benefits of turning away from it, which include the love of Allah and people, while seeking assistance through supplication and reliance upon Allah.
