What is the meaning of "Al-A'rāf"?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The term "al-A'arr" refers to a scabby or mangy animal. It is said, "a camel is 'aar' and 'a'arr'," meaning it has mange. "Al-'Arr" is mange itself. From this comes the saying of Al-Nabigha Al-Dhubyani: "You burdened me with the sin of a man and left him... Thus, the mangy one grazes freely while another is cauterized."
