Who is Abu Yahya, to whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The transaction has profited, O Abu Yahya! The transaction has profited, O Abu Yahya!"?

Abu Yahya, mentioned in the hadith, is the Companion Suhayb al-Rumi, may Allah be pleased with him. Al-Hakim narrated in Al-Mustadrak with an authentic chain of transmission from Ikrimah that when Suhayb migrated and the people of Mecca pursued him, he said to them: "You will not reach me until I have shot an arrow at each one of you, and then I will resort to the sword... I have left two singing slave-girls in Mecca, and they are yours." The verse "And among the people is he who sells himself, seeking means to the approval of Allah" was revealed concerning him. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw him, he said: "O Abu Yahya, your transaction has profited," and recited the verse to him. Al-Hakim and Al-Dhahabi affirmed the authenticity of this hadith, and it has other narrations transmitted by Al-Tabarani and others.
