Financial support for the wife is obligatory by the consensus of scholars, and it is part of the good conduct that Allah has commanded, and the provider receives a great reward.

The wife must obey her husband and take care of the affairs of his home and children. If she stipulates her work and the husband agrees, then she has her own money, and her financial support remains obligatory upon the husband. However, if she does not stipulate it, the husband has the right to prevent her [from working]. If she insists on going out, he can stipulate that she bear the expenses of childcare or help with household chores; otherwise, her right to financial support is forfeited.

The estimation of financial support is based on "sufficiency," taking into account the husband's situation, and it varies with time and place. Sufficiency includes food, housing, clothing, and medical treatment, and does not include luxuries. The husband is advised to be tolerant and generous with his family to achieve domestic happiness.
