Does a wife's right to demand her dues from her husband on the Day of Judgment lapse if she waived them in this world under pressure in exchange for a divorce?
A woman is not permitted to seek divorce (ṭalāq) or annulment (khulʿ) except for a valid reason, such as ill-treatment by the husband or harm inflicted by him. Otherwise, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her.
If the husband is harmful to his wife and she requests a divorce, he must grant it and is forbidden from taking anything from her. However, if the husband is not harmful, has repented, and improved his conduct, then the woman is not permitted to seek a divorce. If she insists, he is permitted to refuse divorcing her until she waives her mahr (dowry) or a portion of it.
It is not permissible for one who has been slandered to demand compensation in exchange for waiving their right to the ḥadd punishment for slander.
